The fans don't find him boring period regardless of what you or I think. He's selling ppv's. He is not a boring fighter. Even if he wasn't selling ppv's Floyd is not a boring fighter.

Rigondeaux is not boring, he just unmarketable right now. Arum is finding it hard to market him because he speaks no English at all from what I'm hearing. Arum has to find another way. He is short changing Rigo when he opens his mouth about Rigo. He needs to create a following for Rigo.

The only difference between them is that Rigo doesn't play the rich, bad guy role Mayweather plays. Even if Rigo knew English, it wouldn't matter. Tim can't sell out anything in Cali. And ward is never gonna be a ppv star because they just fight and don't act the way Floyd does.

Rigo is a great talent but at times is painful to watch because he fights safe and doesn't take more risks. The Donaire win was painful to watch.

He fights at the lower weight classes, doesn't speak English, and doesn't excite enough for the casual fan. Not hard to see why he is harder to market.

yep, it's a perfect storm... but there are things Rigondo can do to make himself more marketable

Let me start off by saying I think Rigo definately is a master in the ring. However he has several things that imo work against him.

The first thing is his age (32 will be 33 in sept according to wikipedia), chances are promoters are apprehensive in promoting someone that is relatively unknown and all ready into his thirties.

Secondly, he is Cuban which means his ethnic fan base in the US is relatively small compared to Mexicans, African Americans, Caucasian Americans, and even people of Asian descent.

Thirdly, his style is not attractive to some boxing fans and most casual fans. Dramatic moment are a huge part of why people tune in, and with Rigo, he usually is so good that there is no drama. Lets face it the most classic fight in boxing history are either upsets or fights in which there are huge momentum shifts in the fights. If the perceived favorite always won boxing would not be as enjoyable as it is. The danger that a fighter could lose at any moment is what makes boxing awesome.

Lastly, he doesn't have the personality to make people tune in. The worst type of personality you can have in boxing if you are not an exciting fighter (exciting fighter defined by casual fans) is a neutral personality. If you can get people to hate you they will watch you because they want to see you get KTFO (ei. Broner and Floyd).

This is why Rigo is a tough sell to networks. It's not fair but thats the way it is.

You have to be able to communicate with people or you just get tuned out, and not on purpose. That's just how people are. If you're engaging, you can be promoted or promote yourself. Dlh, Sugar Leonard crossed over as did Duran eventually. Rigo has to learn some English if he expects to succeed in that aspect, but not in life.
