Comments Thread For: Provodnikov: Beating Alvarado Will Help Make Me a Star

As reported by BoxingScene.com, junior welterweight contender Ruslan Provodnikov has agreed to terms to face WBO interim champion Mike Alvarado on October 19th in Denver, Colorado. Provodnikov is very confident that he can hand the Denver native his second professional loss.

"I will have to follow the game plan that my trainer Freddie Roach will set for me. I think when our styles clash it will be a very exciting fight and an all out war," Provodnikov predicted.

HBO pushed for the fight to take place the week after the October 12th Juan Manuel Marquez vs Timothy Bradley pay-per-view showdown. On the 19th, the Alvarado-Provodnikov fight would air following the replay of the Marquez-Bradley clash which would give the fight even more exposure. Provodnikov said that he's very fortunate to be in the position that he is in now. [Click Here To Read More]

Glad he said 'help make', beating Alvarado of itself won't make anyone a star even if he does land a title.

Ruslan is a funny guy lol. Bradley fought the absolute worst fight he could've fought and still beat this dude up. Ruslan needs to step up his cardio. You can't beat elite level contenders giving away rounds due to inactivity.

              I'm 50/50 on this.
He's got an exciting style and there's a couple of people he can match him up with if he loses and still put it on HBO.
Rios and Abregu are a few... even a Bradley rematch
Not straight off a loss though, wouldn't be surprised if Arum did it though

What about building up the PPV undercard?

Bradley was surprisingly very tough in that fight -- maybe tougher than in the Manny fight.
Bradley said he had to stay toe-to-toe in order to gain fan's respect. That's what he said.

If he fought like that the entire fight he would have lost.
I'm surprised he went that far away from the gameplan just to gain fans respect.
Works out for him in the end
