LOL Floyd carries this board without him half of the people who claim to hate him would have nothing to talk about. Yearly he has highest grossing event in Boxing so I would say thats carrying the sport.

Mayweather along with Oscar De La Hoya hold the record for the most Pay Per View buys with their fight in 2007 having 2.45 million purchases. This fight with Alvarez assures to be on the same level and some even think it could break the record as Golden Boy has promised to have the fight accompanied with a stellar undercard.

Mayweather’s success as a household name goes hand in hand with his skill set which is regarded as the best in the sport. His defense along with his ring IQ, speed and fighting ability has led to an undefeated career thus far. Despite being considered the pound for pound best, there are still some who refuse to give him proper credit or respect according to Mayweather Promotions CEO Leonard Ellerbe.

Floyd definitely doesn't carry boxing. As Foreman said, "boxing is like jazz, the better it is, the less people appreciate it.". Floyd is a special fighter and the best on the planet but few understand how/why,and even less find it exciting. The last person to "carry" boxing was probably Oscar. Floyd is hated and underrated by many, viewed as a fraud, and lacks the positive charisma to be a man of the people outside in the ring, his wizardry in the ring does not suffice.

I would say Floyd carried boxing for US fans, but it was the emergence of Manny Pacquiao that gave US fans and fans world wide a polar opposite. They both put boxing on their back and elevated it when the sport needed it the most. Yes, Floyd was/is the bigger star, but we needed both of them to carry this sport. You need a hero just as much as you need a villian. Fans wanted to tune in to watch both to see who was the sports best and it kept fans interested. But, there's no denying Floyd's PPV and Box Office numbers, the man is an outright star and marketing genius, fighting Mexico's biggest stars on their holiday's. As far as Floyd dominating for 17 years, I honestly can't see what more the man could do. Maybe he could have fought Margirito, but Marg had beaten no one at the time, just my opinion (never saw the hype in Antonio). He's called out Mosley from 1999-2006, it's well documented and proven that Mosley turned him down in 99 and didn't want the fight in 06. It's also documented that Cotto did not want to fight Floyd earlier in his career because he felt "he was not ready for a fight with Floyd" (check his interview with ESPN back in 2012). Paul Williams was never the man at 147, why people continue to bring that fight up is beyond me. And everyone watched the Pacquiao negotiations crumble. I look at Floyd's resume as of right now being about a B+. His run at 147 is not by any stretch spectacular, but neither is anyone else's in this era.

Can't argue with that, but the common misconception is that his opposition was weak, I think that's nonsense.

If Anything mayweather did more to hurt boxing then help it since his demands stopped the biggest fight this century and let everyone down. U can say manny refused the test at first but so what he shouldn't have had to take one in the first place. Nobody else did. Innocence doesn't have to be proven guilt does.
