Comments Thread For: Hearn Gets Extension To Make Deal on Froch vs. Groves

Last week the IBF ordered their super middleweight champion Carl Froch (31-2, 22KOs) to defend his title against undefeated George Groves (19-0, 15KOs). Both of the fighters are promoted by Eddie Hearn of Matchroom. The IBF gave Hearn until July 12th to make the fight - or a purse bid will be called. Hearn has requested, and received, an extension until July 17th, according to the Nottingham Post. The paper says the fight could take place on a date in November - or Froch may vacate the title to go forward in another direction.

Ahhh. So the way Mr Hearn plans to keep the illusion of Carl Froch's "greatness" for another year or so is to match him with a prospect in his "mandatory" and then do another pointless fight with Kessler. In turn, putting off fights with guys like Ward and GGG, that would beat his ass senseless, off for another 18-24 months. This guy is a joke.

I don't like the bout but the IBF ordered it and they're known to be pretty strict on mandatories.

Remember Froch was supposed to fight Stevenson before he vacated the mandatory spot so he has to fight his mandatory now.

      Groves is ranked...

It's another legit win for Froch if he gets it done.

Ward wasn't going to fight him this year. Golovkin is a bigger fight down the line, he's only just getting attention.

As I remember, Froch did call GGG a week ago, or didn't he?...
As about Ward, he said it will be 2-3 fights down the line.

(Groves is also in Hearn's stable.)

In comparison to the other three I guess.

No point in Ward again either.... who knows when he'll fight again anyway

IMO Froch could vacate the IBF trinket and go after a bigger fish. He and Stevenson have unfinished business. Cleverly was calling for him before he signed to fight the Russian. Froch won the belt, so he has the right to defend it. But right now, Groves is unproven and a pointless fight.

I'd like to see that.... but this is a good domestic fight.... so I don't see why not to this.
Please hold off on the Kessler Trilogy

Groves makes more money than Stevenson who would probably want a return fight at 175 (Froch isn't moving up).

                Cleverly is a TR/GBP situation with Hearn/Warren.

The fights I wouldn't have minded seeing were Sakio Bika or Robert Stieglitz unifications.

Froch not moving up to make fights is bull****. Of all the consecutive divisions in boxing, 168 and 175 seem to have guys with very similar body types and the two divisions are almost interchangeable.

Eddie Hearn has been manoeuvring to get this fight on. Why did Groves suddenly move up the mandatory position? This fight was already in motion before the Kessler rematch.
