Comments Thread For: Canelo: This Mayweather Fight is About Pride, Not Money

WBC/WBA 154-pound champion Saul "Canelo" Alvarez (42-0-1, 30KOs) disputes all of the reports that suggest he took the fight with Floyd Mayweather Jr. (44-0, 26KOs) in order to get a career-high payday. Canelo will face Mayweather on September 14th at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. Canelo, 22-years-old, says he took the fight for one reason - to fight, and beat, the best pound-for-pound fighter in the world.

I'm not necessarily pro canelo nor anti Canelo...but I have to respect the man for putting his zero and his brand on the line against the best. He could've continued cashing in for years to come off that zero without taking much in the way of risk but i'm impressed he went through trout and now is up to fight mayweather..not something you see often in this business from youngin's. I have to disagree with this fight being about money..he's got underarmour paying him all kinds of money now in addition to over a dozen or so products he's already involved with. I genuinely think this kid has the right motivation going into the fight, hopefully it translates into a fight fans on both sides can truly enjoy and look back on for decades.

Canelo is serious about this fight.

He wants to beat Floyd down!

We know that champ. Thats why you agreed to get drained in order to make the fight happen.

You knew Mayweather was going to try and duck you by using weight and you called his bluff.

Win or lose Canelo will be cashing in.
Win and he becomes on the level of Oscar De La Hoya and the new boxing cash cow for the next decade.
Even if he loses he raises his profile and a few years down the line people will chalk up the loss to inexperience.
              Either way Canelo wins.

lets be real. Floyd may be the best in the sport but he also brings by far the most money, is going on 37, and comes into the ring at 150 pounds. Its no risk at all. Anyone Canelo's age or stature would jump at that fight. Floyd only has a few fights left anyways.

On top of that, if you lose then it doesnt hurt much. Most of all, anyone with a huge size advantage in boxing thinks they will win. Either way its more than worth the risk.

I think Canelo is legit and will fight the best but this fight doesnt prove it. Everyone wants Floyd, no matter what there age is. Again he's old, small, brings by far the most money/fame, and a loss to him doesnt hurt. Im more impressed by him taking the Trout fight honestly

I believe him. He said the Trout fight was for his families honor and he came through. Now for his pride he will come through by demolishing the coward Floyd.
