Is Tony Thompson the best active US heavyweight?

For a while now I've thought Thompson was an underrated fighter and also that his motivation had taken a dive after losing to Wladimir in the first fight - but he's back in the world mix at this stage, surely with a number of good fights now on the horizon for him.

How would today's version of Thompson (post-prime?) handle the current crop of top US fighters? Is there a case to be made for Thompson being the best active US heavyweight today? Lets say he turns up in the same sort of condition as yesterday - does he beat all the current US heavyweights?

Far from it. Price just made him look a lot better than what he really is. Even though he stopped Price TT looked gassed and sloppy himself. The current crop of top US fighters would definitely beat him...TT would beat the hypejob Wilder though but that's about it.

I put down may be. I think Wilder and Jennings may have a say in this. I'd like to see Jennings/Wilder v Thompson. I'm not sure Thompson can take Wilder's power.

Not at all. A little known fighter outta Philly named Amir Mansour would beat any active US heavyweight IMO.

Stopping Price doesn't mean he was the best, just that Price can't take a punch. Arreola would have ko'd price, wouldn't make him the best. lol

I'd really like to see Mansour get his shot at a top 10 fighter to get his name out there before it's too late. He's 41 years old after all.

Fuuck yeah! Mansour vs Thomson would be good, a win for Amir could land him a title shot. I think him and Malik Scott are the two best US heavies.

I'd pick Amir to knock out Thompson in a one-sided fight....Unfortunately Thompson would never take this fight though. Thompson is now in a position where he can get himself another pretty nice pay check and will only be interested in top 10 fighters.
