A source with knowledge of the negotiations advised BoxingScene.com that Alexander Povetkin (24-0, 18KOs) and trainer Freddie Roach were unable to reach an agreement due to a conflict over the training location. Last week it was being reported that Roach was going to be the head trainer of Povetkin for his upcoming fight with unified heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko, which takes place on October 5th in Moscow at the Olimpiyskiy Stadium.

He didn't see the need to leave moscow? So you pass up a top 5 current trainer prepping you for the biggest fight of your career because you can't take a flight to train? His managers might want to ask themselves who needs who more..I like Povetkin and I like Roach but fact remains Roach would help him more in a short period time than just about any available trainer I can think of.

People criticize Teddy Atlas' work with Povetkin, but I think Povetkins stagnation was the result of signing on a new trainer and agreeing to train in the USA during the FNF season, and then not ever doing it. Boxers need to stay humble and hungry and do what their trainers tell them, or else they end up like Tyson, Pacquiao, ect.

If Povetkin is going to pass up training with Roach just because he wants to stay home and ride his bear on the weekend or whatever, well, maybe fighting on a world-class professional level ain't his thing.
