Would you have stopped this fight or let it go on??
Would you have stopped Dawson Stevenson?

Yes, Dawson's legs were gone and he couldn't keep his balance. If it were to continue, he would've been stopped badly shortly after. The ref had to protect him in that situation.
It's surprising that Chad hasn't asked for a rematch yet. I wonder if he plans to continue fighting. -

chad and his team should not take that fight. not right away, anyway. they'd lose. dawson went down from the first punch he took. he won't miraculously take that shot in his next fight
dawson is all done. he may retire.Comment

You're absolutely right. It's just that probably 99 out of 100 times the losing fighter wants to get back in and avenge their loss but this time I have a feeling Chad knows he's done smh. When he was staring into the crowd aimlessly after the fight, you could tell his confidence was shattered.Comment

I would have stopped it.
While Chad was riding high post Hopkins, I think he subsequently made 3 colossal errors. First was telling Ward he'd drop to 168, and then being unable to do so in an effective way. Second was falling out with John Scully, which led to number 3, the manner in which he fought Stevenson.
I don't believe he'll ask for a rematch right now, and I don't believe he'll retire either.Comment

Dawson was hurt pretty bad. The ref was right to stop it. I don't see him doing much better in a rematch either. Stevenson was hurting him with everything he threw. I don't see how Dawson can overcome that psychologically.Comment

At first I thought the ref should have let him continue, although slightly dazed he seemed to be steady and I hate when refs dont give fighters a chance to prove themselves. Think of all the awesome fights we've had in the past that would have never been if the ref stopped a fight every time a fighter got knocked down. But - during the post fight interview when Chad didn't contest the stoppage and said "he caught me with a good shot, he was better then me tonight", I knew he must have been pretty hurt at the time of stoppage. Chad doesn't hold back when he thinks he's been wronged and he hardly put up a peep. The tough part of this sport is you just really never know how truly the fighter is hurt, and the fighters job is to convince the ref he's not hurt.
Although of course they want to err on the side for the boxers safety, I still think refs these days are being too overly protective. This is a dangerous sport after all (a sport in which the name of the game IS to hurt each other), and they work too hard to have a ref jump in and wave off the fight just because the opponents is going full throttle throwing windmill punches just to get the ref to stop it. I've seen far too many fights where only 1 or 2 of those punches even land and they weren't even clean. I don't know man, tough call. Again, I just cant help thinking of all the great fights we've had in the past that would have never happened in this day and age.Comment

I might be in the minority here, but I would had let the fight continue..I'm not saying the ref was wrong(I don't think there is an argument for that)but had I been ref'ing..He would have had to put Dawson lights out or at least drop him one last time..There was a lot at stake in this fight(The Ring Championship)and when there is that much at stake I'd have to give either fighter the benefit of the doubt..I mean Bayless is an excellent ref,and he gave Khan major chances to recover vs Garcia..There was so much on the line,he was right in doing so..
I'm not saying the ref was wrong, but had it been me..I think I would have let it continue..Comment
