Even though I've always maintained that Valero is overrated, I too think he would spark Matthysse. His boxing acumen coupled with his power would be too much, plus there would be no intimidation factor in that fight. Peterson's fear deserves as much credit in his KO as Matthysse does.

Valero was actually very slick when he was boxing. It's easy to overlook that and just notice the KO percentage. His handler and trainer mentioned that when he was in the amateurs, he was "like water" defensively. Couldn't hit him.

And we never heard of Lucas Matthysse being a huge puncher until the Peterson fight. Everyone knew him as a hard hitting guy before that fight, but just because he knocked out a B/C level fighter, he's suddenly Julian Jackson for some reason. I don't really see it.

The hilarious part from you all you herbs crying out that valero fought bums and quality of opposition why hasn't your fighter got 19 first round KO's? Absolutely all fighters get padded records in the beginning and are fed weaker fighters but if that's the case then why don't all these great fighters have 1st round KOs against the absolute bums that they fought? Bottom line, the man had power and wasn't near his prime. His learning curve was growing and his potential was great. But 19 1st round KO's? And damn 100% KO ratio doesn't suggest he has true power? Why dont your name fighters also have such a record comparable?
