Comments Thread For: Thompson: Lennox Lewis' Tips To Price Won't Be Effective

David Price has hailed his hero Lennox Lewis as a "massive inspiration" after working closely with the former undisputed heavyweight champion ahead of Saturday's rematch with Tony Thompson.

Price's bid for a world title shot had been gathering real momentum until Thompson derailed his plans with a shock second-round stoppage in February.

The Liverpudlian quickly seized the opportunity to make it right as promoter Frank Maloney managed to secure an immediate rematch at the same Liverpool Echo Arena venue.

Price's preparations for the second meeting have been tailored differently this time, with former heavyweight king Lewis coming on board to offer his own guidance.

Price has always faced questions about his punch resistance but insists his loss to American veteran Thompson was largely caused by a punch behind the ear, which scrambled his senses and left him unable to recover.

Its too late in the day for Price. He should have weeded out his defensive flaws before Thompson, rather than going all guns blazing.

      Grandpa

Price career is in high gear. He can't even beat a 41 year Grandpa. Where are the TRUE Heavyweights???????????. Fury is a joke, Wilder Class "C". Malik Scott is the best of them, and I'm not sure about him.

Maloney didn't get Price enough fights and rounds in 2010-2012.

Sadly, Price hasn't fought many rounds compared to most boxers who have been pros for five years.

When HWs like Tyson and Wlad were getting a lot of early KOs, they were fighting often (Wlad had 14 fights in 1997, Tyson had 17 fights in one year).

Despite being younger than Price, Tyson Fury is farther ahead because he's fought more often, and been in with some durable guys like Kevin Johnson who've given him rounds.

I like Price as a fighter and a person much more than Fury, but Hennessy is clearly a better promoter than Maloney.

When have Lewis' tips ever been effective? lol

It's been a running joke the last couple of years, every time Lewis gives a HW who faces a Klitschko some "tips" they ended up getting smoked.

Lewis was a great boxer, but he's not the type that can give valuable information to another boxer.
