Comments Thread For: Canelo Tabs Tito Ramos For Floyd Mayweather Sparring

A source within Saul “Canelo” Alvarez’s team has advised BoxingScene.com that unbeaten prospect Humberto “Tito” Ramos will be among the junior middleweight champion’s sparring partners to prepare him for his Sept. 14 pay-per-view clash with Floyd Mayweather.

Ramos (12-0, 7 KOs), a native of Mexico who now resides in San Juan, Tex., is an unbeaten boxer-puncher that has fought in relative obscurity. The 25-year-old welterweight fought at the junior middleweight limit for the first time in April, outpointing Isai Monrreal south of the border in his hometown of Reynosa. [Click Here To Read More]

He's making the same mistakes that other Mayweather opponents have made in picking subpar sparring partners. Canelo should be getting top of the line sparring so he can be at his sharpest.

Damn. How's this kid no ever heard of with 12 fights get Canelo ready for the likes of Mayweather? He's out of his mind. 1st mistake. No second. 1st was agreeing to Mays slick cowardly request of fighting at a catch of 152 and actually be putting the 154 belt on the line.

Lets get one thing straight ! Canelo and his people propose the catch weight to bait floyd into a fight, not the other way around ..

Second he's making the same ****** mistake that other floyd opponent have done, He underestimating floyd physical ability, speed and skill.

Everyone that fight floyd think they are just going to out muscle him in the ring only to find out he's a lot stronger then he looks or lets us to believe. Once fighter find out they can not maul him on the inside they are left with out a plan and look lost in the ring.

Apparently, Humberto Ramos was a sparring partner of Floyd's when he was preparing for the Marquez fight. See http://www.brownsvilleherald.com/spo...b198b20a2.html.

It's hard to see how that helps Canelo though. If Ramos is indeed a boxer-puncher and a decent sparring partner, it makes sense that Floyd would use him to get ready for Marquez. But I doubt very much that Ramos can help Canelo train for Floyd. Floyd is a skilled pure boxer, a superb counter-puncher and has one of the highest ring IQs in all of boxing. Canelo needs intelligent, experienced sparring partners, not a 12-0 boxer-puncher who hasn't been in a real fight with name competition.

We'll see who else is brought into Canelo's camp, but if someone on his team thinks there's a good reason to leak Ramos' name, it doesn't sound like they're off to a great start.

Shane "Jittery jab" Mosley will be one of his sparring partners too.

Im sure that even Oscar might go a few rounds with him besides Shane. He will have good sparing but nobody as elusive as Floyd. But he will be ready for Floyd I think. He is better then Cotto in my opinion and I have watched Cotto sense he was 6-0.
The one thing i see a issue with is that if he gets Floyd in trouble and doesn't finish him like he did with Trout then he will probably loose.
