It is easier to travel in hope than to arrive. Garcia now has something to lose and so does Al Haymon. He is close to a Mayweather fight that is his pension payout. All he has to do is bide his time and keep winning and the jackpot will turn up. I am pretty sure Garcia would have fought Mattysse if he was the road block to the top and title but right now the risk reward ratio does not add up for him. If he can bypass Mattysse the Mayweather fight most likely happens a win over Mattysse does not get him that much closer to that goal but a loss finishes that dream.
Discretion is the better part of valour. It is easy being an armchair critic and slagging him off as a coward but if we were in his position looking at a massive Mayweather payout I think most of us would give Mattysse a pass for now and set up the fight after the bonanza payout.
