Comments Thread For: Sergio Martinez Targets Mayweather vs. Canelo Winner

WBC middleweight champion Sergio Martinez (51-2-2, 28KOs) is still recovering from several injuries suffered in his last defense against Martin Murray, but he wants to face the best possible opponent when he returns - likely in 2014. The fight that interests him the most is the winner of the upcoming clash between Saul "Canelo" Alvarez and Floyd Mayweather Jr., taking place on September 14th at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. Facing the winner would require Martinez to move down to the junior middleweight limit of 154 or catch-weight in the middle.

I would have said that a while ago, but now Floyd is fighting Canelo, and lets face it; At this point, Canelo would knock Martinez sensless. Im GLAD Martinez is saying this stuff, because Floyd can BEAT him now. And Floyd may fight him. Martinez is the biggest name after Canelo. Way bigger than Khan, Bradley, Ortiz, Devon!! Lets Get It Poppin!!!

Yea the Martinez who fought Chavez, would break Floyd's ribcage. But by the time Floyd even gets close to having Martinez as an option, Martinez will be even older. But can he make a cw of 152? Im not sure.

Floyd wouldn't be interested in a Martinez match if it's not at middleweight for the strap imo.

If Floyd fights him at 154, he would be beating an injury loaded drained opponent who is on the way to becoming over the hill

Martinez should have had a L in his last fight, he's finished.

Martinez lost to Martin Murray. I wouldn't be surprised if Mayweather is now slightly more keen on the fight.

Sergio needs to face Golovkin, not Mayweather or Canelo lol.
