A highlight reel KO over a grizzled,tough, MW like Macklin leads to BIG fights in the seven figure range with Gaele vs Barker winner or Chavez Jr. 2 more wins and he'll get around 2.5 -3 million plus for a Sergio vs GGG PPV or Chavez vs GGG scrap. K2 is positioning GGG to become an American TV star and GGG learning English will help promote him tremendously in the States. Assuming he wins, a GGG vs Martinez or GGG vs Chavez fight would be a PPV must see.

+1 Hershman's philosophy is good for boxing. Golovkin/Macklin, Kovalev/Cleverly, Geale/Barker are the type of fights boxing needs and getting them on HBO is the kind of incentive boxers/promoters need for them to take the risk. Fights like this sure as hell wouldn't have happened before Hershman came to HBO.

Rios earned the biggest purse of his career, $1.25 million, while Alvarado was paid $625,000 for the rematch.

Just because GGG is getting a small purse doesn't mean HBO still doesn't overpay fighters, GGG just doesn't have a strong promoter to get that big payday.


Hopefully he gets some good ratings and K2 ask for more $$$ for his next fight.

What!?!? The fight is almost guaranteed to be exciting. Travesty. I guess that's what happens when two Europeans come to fight on HBO in the US though.

Decent pay all around, cant stand when you spoil a fighter by over paying him then he just becomes harder to deal with down the road when its time for him to earn that money.

How much did Macklin make for his last fight? anyone knows.
