Comments Thread For: Floyd Mayweather Plans To Retire Before His Skills Decline

NEW YORK — Floyd Mayweather Jr. was an impressionable, boxing-loving 5-year-old the day Duk Koo Kim suffered a beating against Ray “Boom Boom” Mancini that cost the young South Korean fighter his life in November 1982.

Mayweather never forgot the horror he witnessed during that infamous fight. It is among the reasons Mayweather wants to retire from this brutal business a healthy, wealthy man, long before one of the most effective defensive fighters ever is physically unable to avoid taking punishment in a boxing ring that could ruin his life once he stops fighting for a living. Excellent idea. Get out healthy.

Almost impossible in the fight game.

The way Floyd fights, its highly unlikely he'll take aa lotta punishment in the ring, no matter how long he decides to fight.

You're right. Canelo is no threat. He should continue to fight well into his 40s so all the haters can see him lose. He should fight Andre Ward. And then move up to heavyweight. "peeleft:

Sounds to me like he is already worried that he might lose.

He wont get out, he loves the money too much. I think he'll end up like the rest of them getting beaten up at the end of his career. I can see him going into his 40's

                  What Floyd declared?
That "he’ll likely retire after fulfilling the lucrative six-fight, 30-month contract he signed with Showtime"...
Then about what was it about?

So now Canelo isn't a threat? Who should he be fighting then? Fight fans and boxing fans shouldn't mix.
