  • Comments Thread For: Broner-Malignaggi Continues Showtime Ratings Surge

NEW YORK– Last Saturday night’s hotly contested Paulie Malignaggi vs. Adrien Broner Welterweight World Championship fight attracted an audience of 1.3 million viewers, the second-largest viewing audience for a bout on SHOWTIME since the network began tracking individual fights in 2009.

The average viewership for the SHOWTIME CHAMPIONSHIP BOXING televised tripleheader—promoted by Golden Boy Promotions from Brooklyn’s Barclays Center—was also the second highest average since Nielsen began separating SHOWTIME from the networks’ multiplex channels in 2004.

In the nearly 10 years since 2004, three of the top-four most watched SHOWTIME CHAMPIONSHIP BOXING live telecasts have aired in the last seven months—Cotto vs. Trout, Dec. 2012; Malignaggi vs. Broner, June 2013; Canelo vs. Trout, April 2013—marking an upward trend. The fourth was Bernard Hopkins vs. Jean Pascal in 2010 [Click Here To Read More]

He took a .1-.2 million hit being on Showtime, but this shows people are interested in Broner. Solid numbers.

well if their ratings for boxing keep increasing like the article states so will their budget...it's an investment

besides broner is used to taking pay cuts (by failing to make weight)

Canceling a terrific show like the Borgias doesn't help them get subscriptions. The channel is freaking terrible other than having boxing. Dexter is over too. They don't even show any good movies. Who's in charge over there?

The article failed to mention that Showtime was free this past weekend to non-subscribers.

That's fast, considering they still haven't released the Floyd/Guerrero numbers.

Didn't Dan Rafael say those numbers weren't counted? They only counted subscribers.

They're good numbers but they weren't all because of Broner as some have suggested. He wouldn't do those numbers with Gavin Rees on Showtime.

Ah, but PPV numbers take longer. They're still counting them today, one by one by one by one...

I guess the people saying that SHO and GB were going to fail ain't going to like the numbers.

I also wonder how happy HBO is right now with telling GB to fuck off, they were supposed to air this fight.
