Awful ratings?

That's showtime boxing on the regular. They have yet to break 1 million average viewers this year. HBO regularly breaks it don't they?

HBO has a much larger audience. If SHO gets a 1.3 million that would be like HBO getting over 2 million(I'm not sure the ratio but I'm sure it would be similar to this). When HBO sc****s by with a million or less it is considered poor. When SHO does it, it is pretty eye catching because they have such a smaller audience and they are starting to be consistent with these numbers.

This probably has more to do with HBO not wanting Hopkins to ruin Stevenson too fast for them. You know they like having Jim Lampley creaming in his pants to knockout fighters, so why not milk it and have him knock Tavoris Cloud out cold, in a showcase fight.

Having a 48 year old guy beat him does nothing for them.

Well stated. HBO absolutely does not need us. They can drop boxing entirely and keep on steamrolling no problem. Golden Boy did potential damage to the sport itself overall by bringing us into a conflict with HBO.

The UFC basically runs MMA and they have to cut and sideline good fighters because they are not able to fit all of them into the schedule.

I really don't think Showtime has a large enough boxing budget to support GBPs entire stable. We will see soon enough. If GB's stable starts to shrink due to a slowing down of the number of new fighters they sign, then we know GBP done ****ed up.

Ok, so Showtime is then doing fine, with the handicap. But look: the nice Maidana Lopez card got pathetic ratings, 600k. Broner Paulie did very well, but only as well as Garcia Salido, which was an afterthought and cost probably 5x less. The 14-1 showcase that just happened cost Showtime over $2.5m, just for the purses, no promotion costs!
