  • Comments Thread For: Kirkland’s Manager, GBP Attorney Comment on Court Ruling

Earlier on Tuesday, BoxingScene.com’s Rick Reeno reported that a federal court ruled to void James Kirkland’s contract extension with Golden Boy Promotions. Kirkland’s co-manager, Cameron Dunkin, commented on the matter.

“I think it’s really wrong with everything they did to help him get James out of jail,” Dunkin told BoxingScene.com. “Golden Boy and Oscar [De La Hoya] treated him well. In the end, that’s a decision that he’s going to have to live with.”

Dunkin shares managerial duties with attorney Mike Miller, and according to the veteran handler, the pair will seek to have Kirkland continue to honor his contractual agreement with them. [Click Here To Read More]

Rematch Angulo. At this point in both fighter's careers they need a good showcase fight. Otherwise its a slow, slow climb (just to be in contention) fighting club fighters and cab drivers.

Kirkland will comeback stronger. Let haters hate. Kirkland always brings the fight and can't wait to see him return to top level.

Was that really necessary? He has made mistakes, and made some bad choices, but hopfully he'll learn and move on, no need to wish ill will towoards anybody.

Are you actually wishing permanent physical harm on another human being? Did Kirkland personally hurt you in some way? What did he do that merits this level of ill will?

Kirkland is a human being, prone to making mistakes, like everyone else. But trying to get out of the contract extension isn't one of them, as the judge made very clear that the contract extension is illegal.

If anyone deserves mockery and ill will because of this ruling, it should be GBP, extending a contract illegally. What makes it worse is, GBP must have known that it was illegal, because it was the very same basis under which delaHoya voided his conract with Top Rank--but they had Kirkland sign anyway, possibly hoping that Kirkland didn't know the law or his rights.

Which is worse: a person making honest mistakes, or sincerely unable to make good decisions for himself; or a company that may have consciously, knowingly, intentionally tried to exploit someone's possible ignorance of the law for its own selfish benefit (this, after proclaiming that they work for the benefit of boxers everywhere)?
