While Paulie was responsible for most of the views, Broner gets credit for bringing in the WorldStar crowd. That's a hard demographic to gain support from, unless you're trashy and ******.

Malignaggi vs. Cano was on a triple header that averaged 528,000 viewers and peaked at 729,000 for Morales vs. Garcia II.

People who are saying Malignaggi brought the ratings here are kidding themselves.

The record ratings were a combination of Broner being a polarizing figure, worldstar giving him plenty of airtime in the lead-in plus the girl they were fighting over.

If they could do 1.3m peak on SHO I wonder how Ken Hershman and HBO are feeling about passing up on this fight and ending their relationship with GB.

This fight would have probably peaked at 1.7-2m on HBO.

lol you've unwittingly made a case for the opposite.

If you say HBO would do 700,000 more views for this fight, then if Broner-Rees had been on Showtime, by your reckoning it would only have done 600,000 views so where did the other 700,000 come from for this bout?

Reality is, both fighters are well known and they both sold this fight. Malignaggi may have been the B side, but Broner wouldn't have done those Showtime numbers with Gavin Rees and he wouldn't do them against a no-name in his next fight either.
