Cotto's plan is to fight the winner of Ishe Smith and Molina Sept. 28 at Barclay Center. If that doesn't get made then he is taking on K9. This is according to Espn boxing.

That's a 2-month turnaround for the winner. Cotto should just fight K9 and then the winner fights Smith/Molina in December.

Cotto should be rooting for Ishe then. Maybe Molina will get another BS DQ. That's a little over 2 months in between those dates. Whoever wins (Molina) better not get any cuts or other injuries.

Both those fights are tough for Miguel right now. K9 is the easiest option stylistically, IMO.

I just hope he shows more urgency than he did against Trout

It's also possible that Cotto is trying to keep a Canelo fight open, and getting the IBF belt gives him some negotiating power. If he beats Smith/Molina in September, he could fight Canelo next May.

I hope Molina wins and beats Smith. Just so when Cotto beats him, he beat a tough fighter and is right back in the picture. Beating K9 would be good for confidence, but nothing more.

I thought Lara was one of the possible opponents also. I read an interview yesterday in which he said they were trying to get Cotto. Still, I would prefer to see Cotto against either Molina, Smith, or Lara before Bundrage.
