Malignaggi and the Broner Tirade BREAKDOWN

    What happened last night?!

Being accustomed to the typical trash talk from either of these fighters, one thought we would see the typical shake of hands and congratulations at the end of the fight last night. What ensued though was a tirade that in and of itself was bad for boxing.

See the history of the sport is very important in determining the future. Why would I condemn the fighters themselves in this instance and not the judges or scorecards? And why would I not condemn their antics, but rather the stain on boxing that words such as Paulie Malignaggis induced?

Well it is not too hard to understand. Forget the scorecards - the best man on that night won, simple a that. I don't care how close are wide you had it for Broner - he won - plain and simple. Next topic.

Love or hate Adrien Broner his antics did not piss me off the most. Sure, he incited Paulie to go on his rant and I am by no means applauding the guy - he is classless. I just look at what I have in the ring every single time with fighters.....unless (yes that is a big UNLESS) it goes outside the real of the ring and harms the sport.

A guys opinions or antics such as Broners can be debated all day long on if they are bad or good for the sport. On one end he brings in viewers (thats a fact) and on the other end he is not a good role model for youth. Either way, how he acts is his business.

Make no mistake though - Paulies comments referring to Al Haymon and Tom Shreck superseded the debate realm, aside from the fact that they made no sense.

Let us start off with him saying he is ok losing a close decision - it was a close fight. He said that himself to millions of viewers. Ok Paulie.....what is the problem then?!? You lost a split decision. So it would have been ok if the one card read differently but the outcome was the same? What kind of sanity is that? Ok next topic.

Paulies comments were well over the line. In fact I will go as far as to say that if we were being "fair" Paulie would be suspended for his comments regarding Tom Shreck having a fixed card and fixed events from Al Haymon. Insane? No, not really. It is exactly what happened to Juan Manuel Lopez when he made comments about referee Roberto Ramirez Sr. being a gambler and somehow fixing their fight.

Paulies comments - at best - hurt boxing. He even said himself boxing does not need these things cause people think it is fixed but them goes on a tirade to millions of viewers about just that - all while saying the outcome was fine in the first place!

I am not in the pocket of either one of these fighters. I respect both in the ring and in fact said before the fight that Paulie would give Broner problems and was much much better than the 11/1 odds stacked against him.

Being a historian I can tell you firsthand that Paulies comments are a stain on boxing. People so not remember scorecards, they remember outcomes and comments made to millions of people. When peole look to boxing and see the fight they will connect boxing to corrupt due to the harmful nature of Paulies words.

As a commentator and ambassador of the sport he should rescind them immediately to prevent further damage to the greatest sport on the planet that suffers from tirades such as that.

That being said - Broner is indeed classless but let the fans judge him. I judge fighters by what they do in the ring and Broner is not quite this untouchable elite he is being made out to be. He has his list of flaws that can be exposed unless he fixes them.

Paulie on the other hand is a great warrior that comes to fight every time out. He makes a show of things and draws people to the sport. I wish him the best but hope he sees the harm in his post fight comments.

In short: OP sucks Broners nuts and can't understand 111-117 is bogus.

              ??
Paulie was correct. The fighter with most media or boxing backing tends to get the close decisions. I'm glad he said it.

What Broner did was very disrespectful and a horrible representation of a champion.

Yeah the fight was close but that one wide score (117-111) seems to indicate that Paulie was predetermined to lose a decision no matter what.
