Comments Thread For: Mitchell Admits He Was Rocked, Banks Wants a Trilogy

NEW YORK — Seth Mitchell won his rematch against Johnathon Banks, but he didn’t win many fans Saturday night at Barclays Center.

The former Michigan State linebacker beat a lethargic Banks by unanimous decision in a 12-round fight for a regional heavyweight title. He didn’t do anything else, however, to instill confidence in those that don’t believe he has what it takes to become the next heavyweight champion from the U.S.

Still, Mitchell (26-1-1, 19 KOs) clearly won an incredibly boring bout that didn’t at all resemble their first fight, a short slugfest Detroit’s Banks won by second-round TKO six months ago in Atlantic City. All three judges — Waleska Roldan (115-112), Michael Ross (117-109) and Don Trella (114-112) — scored Mitchell the winner, though fans loudly booed after the decision was announced. Something looked off with Banks the whole fight. Maybe Wlad was there to make sure that Banks doesn't banish a future challenger for his titles.lol

What a horrible idea. After last night I don't want to see either guy fight again.

The first fight was great while it lasted (as Mitchell's tend to be) so it's harsh to immediately dismiss this. Something was very wrong with Banks last night. There were rumours of an injury according to Boxnation (this was said before the fight - not with the benefit of hindsight) so maybe there's something in that. Watching it, I honestly think Banks may have been paid off.

both guys ***in ******. Arreola would destroy both of them.

Banks probably earned some good cash to lose the fight.

I agree that Banks seemed like something was off. I thought at the end of the fight they were going to say he broke is hand or thumb or something.

If Banks took his foot off the pedal so Mitchell would win and they could set up a 3rd fight, that is some dirty ****.
