Comments Thread For: Argenis Mendez To Headline Four-Fight PPV, 8/23 in Vegas

On the heels of his first title win, Argenis Mendez is now prepared to headline his first pay-per-view event. The super featherweight titlist will make the first defense of his belt on August 23 in Las Vegas, against Canada-based Afghani boxer Arash Usmanee.

“I’m excited for this opportunity,” said Mendez (21-2, 11KO) who became a champ after stopping Juan Carlos Salgado in the 4th round of their title fight rematch this past March. “I have big plans in store for the future, beginning with Usmanee.”

The bout headlines a four-fight independent pay-view card featuring at least one more major belt at stake, with Claudio Marrero facing Jesus Cuellar in an interim featherweight title fight. [Click Here To Read More]

Good name drop with marrero. He will get his soon enough. He's got amazing skill and seems to be well rounded. As for Argenis he's definitely the goods. Whether people like him as a fighter or not is something else. But he's got skill and is coming into his own after skating uphill for a while.

I like Mendez but I hope Usmanee pulls off the upset. Idk if there has been an afghani world champion yet.

I see no issue w/Usmanee getting this title shot given how he should of got the decision not sure how the Thai was in position to be in a final elimantor anyway so Barthelemy can wait not like he'd beat Mendez anyway and if he's upset makes for a possible rematch which would be cool.

Usmanee will make it a fight but based on his last performance Mendez will be too quick/sharp

It's only on ppv cause they couldn't find a tv date, probably. It's along the lines of those Pinoy Power cards, even smaller.

I have no idea why it's on PPV, that's why it was independent PPV.

Also... kind of random he's fighting an Afghan fighter
