7 reasons the WBC is a joke!

And this can be applied to the other three belts, they are all jokes! This is only part of the article...

    WBC January Ratings Analysis

    WBC ratings under the microscope

By Paul Upham: The World Boxing Council has released its new January 2006 ratings for activity over the last month, with the following questions arising and changes of note.

    1. We know the heavyweight division is far from its strongest era right now, but does Oleg Maskaev really belong at No.1 even considering his points eliminator win over Sinan Samil Sam? This is the same Maskaev who was knocked out in back to back fights by Kirk Johnson and Lance Whitaker in 2000 and 2001 and was stopped by Corey Sanders in 2002.

    2. While has hasn't had a fight since his October 15 points loss to Juan Carlos Gomez, former champion Oliver McCall moves up six places to No.4 this month?

    3. Where are Antonio Tarver and Glen Johnson at light heavyweight? Have they been banished forever from the rankings because they fought each other instead of Tarver fighting his mandatory when he was WBC champion and gave up the belt in December 2004?

    4. Why is Lou Del Valle at No.6 at light heavyweight? Since his points loss to Bruno Girard in July 2002 for the WBA title, he has had four wins. Three in 2004 over Tiwon Taylor 24-12-1(18), James Johnson 19-21-2 (11) and Raymond McLamore 3-9-1 (1). His last fight was an eight round points win over Dan Sheehan 10-34 (4) in April 2005.

    5. The WBC must really want Felix Trinidad back. Despite 'Tito' telling reporters many times since his loss to Winky Wright in May 2005 that he is retired, the WBC has him rated at No.6 at middleweight this month, even moving up one place?

    6. Everyone respects and admires Arturo Gatti. But after his crushing stoppage loss to Floyd Mayweather Jr in June 2005 at super lightweight, should he really now be at No.3 at welterweight?

    7. What happened to Diego Morales who was No.1 at bantamweight last month? He has disappeared and is nowhere else in the ratings this month. He last fought in October last year with a 1st round stoppage of Len Martinez.

Lets not forget about the IBF. I think IBF is a bigger joke then WBC. Zab can still keep his IBF belt which is a joke, also IBF was the only belt that was stripped from Taylor for fighting Hop after 4 months.

Why do we need so many world titles for one weight class anyway? Why can't we just have one world heavyweight champion, one world middleweight champion etc. At least there's a better chance that the champ will be decent and fighters like Ruiz wouldn't even be a contender. Competition would also be higher because everyone wants that one highly prized belt.

Keep the WBA and scrap the rest.

They threatened to strip Corrales if he didn't give Castillo a rematch. That is unheard of.

They are already forcing Taylor to defend against Wright. Bull****.
