  • Comments Thread For: AIBA Responds To Critics of Pro Boxers in The Olympics

The International Amateur Boxing Association and the International Olympic Committee have both responded to widespread criticism of the plan of AIBA president Dr. Ching-Kuo Wu and executive director Ho Kim to allow professional boxers to compete in the Olympic Games beginning 2016.

Regrettably due to an oversight we failed to see the response of AIBA’s PR and Communications Director Sebastien Gillot to our query regarding the AIBA’s response to the European Boxing Union’s stand against the plan to allow professional fighters to compete in the Olympic Games.

The AIBA stated “please take note that the only European Boxing Confederation recognized by AIBA is the EUBC, not the European Boxing Union. Generaly speaking on the participation of AIBA Pro Boxing (APB) boxers in the Rio 2016 Olymoiuc Games, following on the allegations of the World Boxing Council and its President Mr.Jose Sulaiman, the International Olympic Committee has made clear that AIBA is the only governing body of the sport of boxing that it recognizes worldwide.” [Click Here To Read More]

AIBA is, by far, the most corrupt body in boxing to date.

Yeah, I like watching the amateurs fight at the Olympics... you know, they have a good attitude, respectful, very different style, but it's nice. Maybe they're not trying to kill the other guy, but there's a lot of skill and it's a different side of boxing that's nice to watch

I'd like to see an age limit if they are going to allow pros like they do with olympic soccer, make it u23.

There should be an age limit anyway, it's not fair seeing a 30 year old in his third Olympics fighting some 19 year old. The Olympics should be a stepping stone to the pros.

They actually change the age limits.

It is now 19 to 40 years old.

Cause they are trying to entice a few of the top pros in competing in the next Olympics. Exe... Wlad Klitchko

I personally don't agree with it cause like another poster said
