  • Comments Thread For: Garcia-JuanMa: HBO BAD's Season-Best 1.3 Million Viewers

There wasn’t anyone more disappointed than Mikey Garcia when he was forced to concede his featherweight title on the scales. The unbeaten rising star missed weight for what became a non-title fight against Juan Manuel Lopez last weekend in Dallas, which aired live on HBO.

It turned out to be the only letdown of a weekend that continues to deliver very good news in the aftermath.

Garcia overcame the letdown and also the lingering flu bug that played a part in his struggling to lose the final two pounds necessary to still be classified as a featherweight champ. A one-sided 4th round knockout of Lopez drew rave reviews for his dominance, and apparently in front of his largest crowd to date. The Nielsen ratings for the show topped out at 1.3 million viewers, making the event the highest-rated HBO ‘Boxing After Dark’ telecast of 2013 to date. [Click Here To Read More]

Pretty soon. GB fighters will start jumping ship when they realize nobody is watching them over on Showtime. When Mikey Garcia is doing 1.3 Million Viewers, and Mayweather can't cross $1Mil PPV buys (they never released hard #s), you know there's an issue there.

Execs at HBO are really smart. They have by far the strongest brand of all the premium channels. When you combine a free viewing week and the 1st showing of last summer's blockbuster movie, the BAD card was a guaranteed success. I'm sure Mikey gained a ton of new fans last Saturday.

That's very high for a featherweight fight, I don't even think do site has ever done those numbers and its almost 2x the number of Garcias fight with salido. These numbers were no doubt bumped up by Batman

Mikey has really proven himself to be a great fighter, a great defensive fighter that FIGHTS with awesome power.

He is certainly in my lists of favorites and has been since the first time I saw him fight, reminds me of when I saw Eric Morales the first time on Espn fights years , you just KNEW he would be great, same with Mikey !!!!

Greater things will come from Mikey !

That's crazy. Especially for a fight that had 0 promotion.
