Ward and Hopkins fans crying about excessive clinching

My candidate for the worst referee in modern boxing is the one who "officiated" in the Freddie Norwood-Derrick "Smoke" Gainer featherweight title fight. At the end he actually held Norwood helpless so that Gainer could hit him right in the crotch and then counted to 20 and declared him KOd. Although there were bad fouls on both sides, Gainer should have been DQd.

The whole fight is worth watching. Norwood was unbeaten with about 10 defences at the time.

        Cortez - Hatton Vs Mayweather

While I don't think he ruined the fight, he certainly hindered it. I've always felt that the loutish element in Hatton's fanbase in Vegas was partly responsible for the bias.

Singing Rule Britannia and rejoicing that 'Britons never, never, never shall be ******' whilst watching African-American fighters and then booing the American national anthem was never going to do Ricky any favours.

Anyone that pick Floyd - Hatton should kill themselves

Watch the fight, Floyd HUGGED on the inside, so Joe broke it up... The few times Floyd didn't hold, Joe let Hatton work

If not for Floyd's clinching, Joe would have let Hatton fight on the inside

And I don't even like Joe

Watch how Byrd handled the Hopkins-Winky fight. The entire fight Hopkins mauled and was never called for it. Between round 2-8 Hopkins hit and clinched for round after round.

Another bad one, though only for a EBU title, was Chisora-Helenius. Ref didn't let Del do his thing at all. Stopped him every time he was coming in, pulled him back when he got inside and talked to him waay to many times messing up his groove. Chisora was on form that night.

On top of that, the judges robbed him. The whole show was a disgrace. The only thing that wasn't a disgrace was Chisora who was excellent.

Great call Edgar. That was a foulfest. Best example ever of a referee completely losing control of a fight.

To those not familiar with it can watch it here:

The worst partial referee ever must be Rodrigues in the Coggi-Gonzales fight. It's indescribeable. Whatch from 0:28

Of recent fights the referee in Ward-Kessler is worst performance of that decade. Allowing 80+ clinches and 5 headbutts by Ward without a caution and then threatening to DQ Kessler.

                    Aside from the obvious...

Pabon in Haye v Chisora, the guy refused to allow inside fighting and ended a round 15 seconds early when Haye was in trouble (not a title fight).

Cortez in Ortiz v Mayweather, twat wasn't even watching when one of the fighters got sucker-punched.

Ottke vs Reid has to be one of the worst...I think Reid got a point taken off for punching sven in the face.
