Comments Thread For: Cruz vs. Salido Title Clash Could Boast Historic Implications

Orlando Cruz made history – and the headlines – late last year in “outing” himself, making the Puerto Rican the first known openly gay male boxer.

If all goes well, he now has the chance to help Puerto Rico make boxing history in the next few months.

Recent developments in the featherweight division have advanced Cruz to within one fight from contending for a vacant title. Mikey Garcia was forced to concede the title at the scales after failing to make weight for his eventual 4th round knockout of former champ Juan Manuel Lopez this past Saturday in Dallas, Texas.

Cruz is the mandatory challenger and was already next in line to face the winner. With the title now up for grabs, the sanctioning body has ordered a vacant title fight between Cruz and former champ Orlando Salido, who lost the belt to Garcia earlier this year. [Click Here To Read More]

What do you guys think of Cruz chance against Salido? He is very slick in the ring and precise, but not much pop and Salido will be the most aggressive guy he will have fought. I guess it can be a toss up.

Which is why I'm picking Salido in this fight, Salido won't be scared of Cruz punches, so he'll be more aggressive than usual. Ill take Salido by TKO.

the most i've seen of cruz has been a one minute highlight video of one of his recent fights. if he was the mando to mikey, then why not make this fight. sounds good to me, i'll have to see more of cruz before picking an outcome, but let's see if top rank can make this fight along with garcia/martinez at 130 for rocky's title. it'd be great if they can stick both bouts onto one card.
