I'm sure he made an honest effort to lose the weight and he killed himself doing it, especially in the last week or so. But he rehydrated 16 pounds over the weight class limit when the maximum reasonable amount is usually around 10. Being sick for a couple days does not excuse this. This means he was pretty damn irresponsible in his time off, which matters just as much as the training camp as far as weight is concerned. It's like having 3 months to write a 40 page research paper. You completely blow the first two months, starting working on it on the last month, and the final week comes and you've only written 5 pages. Then you absolutely kill yourself in the last week pulling all nighters and working on the paper 24/7 to try to finish, but still come up short of the 40 page requirement. Should the professor give you leniency for working super duper hard in the last week? Fuck no. Your responsibility was to work on it during the entire 3 months, not to kill yourself in the last week.

If boxing is what you do for a living, you should be in reasonable shape all the time even during your off time. It's your damn job to stay in shape. If you're dehydrating 16 pounds, god knows how much weight you packed on between your last fight. It's ridiculous.

Also, our opinions don't carry any worthwhile weight? Well, fuck you too, buddy. Come up with it a less smug and self-righteous title next time.

well thanks to Mr. Fitzsimmons we can finally put to rest Roy's loss to Tarver.
Unless of course, it is actually making the agreed weight that was the cause of his poor performance.

The author is a big f**king idiot! Whether the fighter is .5 or 2 lbs overweight, he's overweight!! That's the bottom line. He didn't make the contractual limit. It's bad for the sport and bad for the fighters, usually worse for the one who made the limit. To put it simply, IT'S CHEATING! Why have these weight stipulations if the fighters are not going to make it anyway? True, Mickey probably would have beaten Juanma anyway but not there's that cloud over that win now. Is Robert Garcia not doing his job making sure his fighters make the required weight? It's becoming su****iously common with his fighters. Not hating on Mickey but this win is tainted.
