TOTOWA, NJ - Earlier today, the IBF ordered Light Heavyweight Champion Bernard Hopkins to make his next title defense against newly-crowned #1 contender Sergey "Krusher" Kovalev of Russia.

On Friday, Kovalev scored his 9th impressive knockout in a row with a third round demolition of Houston's Cornelius White on the NBC Sports Network's critically acclaimed Fight Night series.

"When the IBF issued today's letter, ordering Hopkins to fight Kovalev next, without granting any exceptions to Hopkins in the interim, everything changed," promoter Kathy Duva of Main Events, said. "Kovalev has many opportunities, now. We are going to take a few days to evaluate and then decide upon the next move. Of course, Sergey would be thrilled to face Hopkins if Bernard wants the fight."

Kovalev is pretty good, but you only should judge a fighter when his opponent pushes back ! that is one thing I am learning about from my favorite sport ! List of untested, but good from eyeball test :

GGG - not tested yet, has the power / skills
Kovalev - same as above
Mickey Garcia - very good skillset, but he is beatable, no killer instinct
Adrien Broner- has not had to dig deep yet, has not fought a mover
I am sure you guys can add to the list -

the guys above are not bums or bad fighter at all, you just cannot go off one sided beatings on opponents we have never heard of.

I take your overall point, but unlike Golovkin who has yet to face a strong MW, Kovalev fought Campillo and stopped him.

Only thing with Campillo is that if you over look him he will outbox you, but if you prepare like a hungry Kovalev you will stop him

Exactly! People underestimate B-Hop, when he goes against someone with a similar style Jermaine Taylor or Chad Dawson, he struggles. But when he gets one of these young, hungry fighters, he tends to break their will. You have to remember that they know he's 48 and B-Hop knows he's 48 and he's seen it all. I have tons of respect for B-Hop and if I was him, I'd take the challenge. What are his other options? Adonis Stevenson? Does he really want that right now? Nathan Cleverly I'm sure he would love to fight but does Cleverly even want a piece? Beibut won't get any love from anyone, he should call up Chad Dawson.
