Comments Thread For: Abraham Holding Out For Money, Threatens Retirement

Former champion Arthur Abraham (36-4, 28KOs) is threatening not to fight on August 24th against Willbeforce Shihepo in Scherwin, Germany. According to reports, Abraham is unhappy with the purse being offered by his promoter, Sauerland Event, and the two-division beltholder wants more money.

"If Sauerland Event does not reach an agreement with my lawyer, I will not box....neither on August 24th or later on. I do not need to continue my boxing career, and I can finish it right now. Athletes should be treated fairly," Abraham stated.

Maybe you would get more money if you didnt look like a shot, old fighter..

When stieglitz blows you out in less than 5 rounds its hard to command top money..

Only way he is going to make big money again is to be a sacrifiicial lamb to chavez jr

It's a hard reality to admit when your no longer the main event and the purses get smaller.

Without knowing the numbers, I suspect Abraham has a case. It's about supply and demand. AA is hugely popular in Germany and Sauerland is very thin on starpower at the moment. Sauerlands deal with broadcaster ARD tells them to make a certain amount of shows each year and without AA they are hard pressed to find a mainevent fighter with sufficient drawing power.
