Comments Thread For: Mayweather Sr. talks Canelo, critics, catch weight, more

It shouldn’t be much of a surprise that outspoken trainer Floyd Mayweather Sr. has a tremendous amount of confidence in his son Floyd heading into his Sept. 14 clash with junior middleweight champion Saul Alvarez.

On the heels of his masterful display against Robert Guerrero last month at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, the 36-year old Mayweather is roughly a 2 ½ to 1 betting favorite to emerge victorious against the 22-year old “Canelo”.

The Guerrero triumph was notably special for Mayweather Sr., as it went hand in hand with his return to Floyd’s corner as his trainer. So too did the Mayweathers reconnect on an emotional level outside of the ring after some well-documented disagreements in the past.

Still upset at the catch weight limit of 152 pounds for this fight…
“I don’t like it. I don’t like the weight, whatever it is. Even if Floyd wins, I don’t like the weight. I don’t like that. I’m just saying that, I don’t know how it came together with them getting that. I would have at least made it 150. I wouldn’t have made [152]. For what? If you’re a junior middleweight and you’re fighting junior middleweight, you should be able to make 150 pounds easy. He might have a little struggle but it shouldn’t be that much of a struggle.”

^LOL Damn they really want to make this kids stamina to crap.

Pac, on steroids? No way. JMM on roids, no way. They put on that muscle at an advanced age legitimately. The fact they had "trainers" who had intimate knowledge of roid use was just a coincidence, right?

What does this have to do with the topic?

Pacquiao was always muscular and shredded, its a shame you been in here since 2005 and you are spewing BS when you know Pac has always been a freak of nature at the lower weights unless you never watched him back in the day.

Everyone knew he was ripped with huge calves and legs, and amazing stamina, but he never put on muscle he just drained himself to make 130 and would balloon back to 144 on fight night.

Manny Pacquiao at 130 pounds before Ariza he walked around at 145-48 pounds which is what he weighs on fight night now

Look at his massive legs he always had tree trunk legs

JMM is the one who put on muscle at an advanced age of 39 he looked like a bloated kid when he fought Mayweather at 144.

Of course theres going to be critics. Its a Floyd opponenet. Just like the "he scared" comments before to the "Canelo to green" thats been popping up alot lately after the signing. Either way im happy this fight is signed and ready to go. Major event coming in Sept

I like when he said " if they fight at jr middleweight then they should be able to make 150"........

Lol or maybe they should both come in at the regular limit of 154, but thats just me....

I do agree though that canelo will have a hard time dealing with floyd's movement and counter punching and stamina,,,,,,
I think floyd schools him after about 6 rounds
