Former WBC female super featherweight champion Frida Wallberg, knocked out Friday evening by Diana Prazak in Stockholm, is now awake after being in a seduced coma after she underwent surgery Saturday morning. In a statement issued on her facebook page Wallberg says - "Iīm awake now and donīt want anyone to worry, I am tired after all the medication. Boxing (quite apart from Wallberg and those close to her) suffers because of incidents like this. The nay-sayers falsely assume that there's a causal link between the in-ring action and severe injury, when in fact the lack of regulation is far more harmful. -
Frida -thinking of you
Like everyone our thoughts and prayers continue for Frida and also for Diana who was quite distraught in the interview after the fight. I hope she does not lessen her will to fight again soon.
Some criticism has been made of the ref. He was in a no win situation. Indeed Frida still looked a bit wobbly after the first knock down but she is a national hero and to have stopped it then would have brought the house down on him. In another situation I am sure he would have stopped it.
I just hope this does not put back the cause for womens' boxing. We have fought so hard for years to gain this statusComment
