Comments Thread For: Frank Warren Cleverly-Stevenson, Copper Box, More

On Tuesday I finally concluded an agreement with the London Legacy Development to promote six events at the Copper Box Arena inside the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park in Stratford.

It’s a deal that promises to revitalise boxing in the capital and provide fight fans with a fantastic new facility to savour. Located in the heart of London’s East End - historically the spiritual home of pugilism in Britain - the futuristic venue was used as a site for several events, primarily handball, at the 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

Dubbed ‘The Box That Rocks’, the atmosphere generated when two elite well supported prizefighters are slugging it out is going to be electric. Though boxing didn’t feature at the Copper Box during London 2012, it shouldn’t be forgotten that Team GB were the top performing boxing nation at the Games and the move to incorporate the sport into the venue has been widely celebrated. Boris Johnson, the Mayor of London, hailed it as ‘a knockout deal’.

Heard it before "Frank" (or whoever writes these for Frank). Wake me up when Cleverly actually fights someone half decent rather than just talking about it. He's fast becoming a laughing stock because of the way he's held that belt hostage (a belt that he was gifted in the first place I might add).

Cleverly looks set to fight Kovalev next. Hopkins, Froch and Shumenov have all rejected fights with Cleverly.

As for him being "gifted" the belt....how exactly was it his fault that Jurgen Braehmer ducked him with a fake injury just days before the fight?

Don't even like Cleverly that much but he gets a lot of unwarranted criticism

Cleverly needs to make a decision soon; he's fast approaching joke status. Sure, Hopkins may not be keen on the fight, and maybe some other LHWs aren't, either, but he needs to inject some credibility into his career.

          He LOOKS protected.

Maybe he should move up to cruiserweight?

If Saunders beats Ryder, and Eubank jr continues his progress, i want Saunders-Eubank at the Copper Box in December. Make it happen, Frank

To be fair to him, Froch, Hopkins, Braehmer, Shumenov fights have all fallen through. And if you look down his record there's guys like Murat, Bellew, Krasniqi on his record. They are all good fighters and two of them are currently mandatories for two of the belts.

He def gets too much criticism, and he seems like a guy craving the big fights. So get him in with Hopkins, Kovalev, Stevenson etc so we can see how good he really is.

He gets criticism because he holds a world title belt having only beaten one decent fighter: Murat (unless you count Bellew - who, at the time, wasn't ranked and, who ran him very, very close). You can't hold a belt for 5 or 6 defenses and not fight anyone in the top ten. There's been constant talk of big fights but none have ever happened. I'll be happy to reverse my opinions and support Cleverly if he takes on someone with a pulse. Until then, the criticism is warranted.

Seems his promoter isn't delivering him the fights he needs.

FW should perhaps be concerned that another fighter is about to walk.
