Comments Thread For: Arum: Canelo, Not Much of a Chance To Beat Mayweather

As soon as Floyd Mayweather announced his fight with Saul “Canelo” Alvarez being set for September 14th in Las Vegas, NV at the MGM Grand, it set the boxing world on fire and the fight has been a hot topic amongst fans and media alike.

Top Rank founder and CEO Bob Arum was in Beverly Hills today to announce the signing of his newest fighter Japanese gold medalist Ryota Murata and spoke to BoxingScene and Constantino Garcia regarding his thoughts on the fight.

“I think Canelo doesn’t have anywhere near the experience to fight a Mayweather. And the problem with Canelo and a lot of young fighters is they don’t have the stamina. They run out of gas. That’s what happened to him in the Austin Trout fight. Austin Trout didn’t know how to capitalize on it; Mayweather would. So I think Mayweather wins a decision or stops him late” said Arum.

I bet Arum would love to have Canelo in TR... with that said he is right about Canelo losing steam at the end of his fights... if Canelo brings in a strengh & conditioning coach, we might see Canelo win this one.

        ol Bob

Bob is absolutely right about this fight but its under false pretenses. He's trying to ramp down the fight hype and take money out of the pockets of GBP. I bet you he still puts his money on Canelo to beat Mayweather. He is horrible for the sport of boxing.

I've seen the odds for Floyd and Canelo something similar, which I find kinda funny considering the media / fans, and even sports bookies aren't giving Canelo much of a chance at all. Seems like there's no action to play with (yet at least)

Arum is saying what about 95% of the Boxing world is saying. Whatever Arum says isn't going to effect anything. He's saying what pretty much everyone is saying, but because Arum said it he wants to hurt their business?

Even though he's probably right, u know if Canelo was under top rank, arum would be talking like as if Canelo is the next ATG.

Arum is pretty much speaking the truth here, which is rare but he's being real nonetheless. I don't think Mayweather stops him though.

This is the first time the odds have been this close since DLH vs. May. People ain't give Canelo a shot but they also ain't putting their money where their mouth is. Unless huge money is coming in on Canelo which also wouldn't be surprising.

Arum is just trying to dampen the hype and excitement around the fight. It's embarrassing to watch
