Comments Thread For: Jermell Charlo Decision Demetrius Hopkins Over Twelve

Home Depot Center, Los Angeles - In a bout for the USAB/WBC Continental Americas super junior middleweight titles, Jermell Charlo (21-0, 10KOs) won a twelve round unanimous decision over veteran Demetrius Hopkins (33-3-1, 13KOs). All three judges had it 115-113.

Charlo controlled the action in the early rounds with his aggression, an active left jab and follow-up power shots. Hopkins stayed defensive, didn't throw enough punches and he was very tentative to counter and/or engage Charlo. In the later rounds, the fight dragged on with Charlo looking to land something big but Hopkins never allowed him to connect with more than one shot. It wasn't a pretty fight to watch and the live crowd often voiced their displeasure. [Click Here To Read More]

I missed it in favor of Gamboa-Perez wasn't much better. Glad Lara-Angulo, Maidana-Lopez, and Dawson-Stevenson, though it wasn't action packed, delivered thrills, action, drama, and KO's.

That being said, is Charlo-Hopkins worth a rewatch just to see Charlo's development? Or was it really that bad?

D Hop tries to fight like B Hop but it's a worse version bcse he doesn't win or provide any intrigue to the fight he just dulls it for the entirety.

Charlo is a good prospect but tough to tell with this fight though you can take away his jab and he doesn't seem to always know how to maximize his offense.

Put it this way: I scored it a draw with Gamboa-Perez, in terms of ****tiness.

Damn, I love boxing, but I'll save Charlo-Hopkins for a bad case of insomnia.
