Comments Thread For: Jorge Melendez vs. Nick Brinson Shobox Early Results

By Jake Donovan - Hall of Fame weekend is officially underway in upstate New York. Returning to a past tradition, live boxing is on the menu at the Turning Stone Casino in Verona, New York.

Jorge Melendez headlines the show, as the welterweight puncher takes on late substitute Nick Brinson in the Showtime-televised main event. Brinson replaces Luis Gradeja, who dropped out of the show earlier this week.

Currently up is a super featherweight battle between unbeaten Jeffrey Fontanez and Alejandro Rodriguez. [Click Here To Read More]

Great fight until Fitch lost control of his fighters. Brinson won the fight with crisp, clean combination punching. Melendez carries some power, but that's about it.

I agree Cotto is promoting near garbage. He needs to search and get boxers from Mexico, Dominican Rep., Argentina, Panama, etc. Both Melendez and Fontanez were exposed by fighters who were supposed to be easy wins. Melendez judging was tight but what a horrible gift decision for Fontanez and rather than helping him it is going to be worst because he is very limited and sooner than later there won't be any way that no more judges would be able to save him of being KOed and/or getting severely beaten to serious damage.

It was really good to see Brinson win, especially on one weeks notice. My wife was even on the couch cheering for him!

The ref was terrible and lost control of that fight!!!! At the very least the should have taken another point for the rabbit punches. He could have honestly DQ'd Melendez.

Brinson showed skills and speed and clearly lost the fight. The ref saved him from a stoppage with that eight count and long set up. The lose tape on his glove further helped him.

In the end he regained composure and continued to show that he was in a different level skill wise than Melendez

Bad officiating. Brinson was saved by the ref. Took too long to count and wasn't warned of the illegal holding.
