  • Yuriorkis Gamboa Name Appears In Biogenesis Report

Several prominent Major League Baseball players, including Ryan Braun and Alex Rodriguez, are facing suspensions for using performance-enhancing drugs after the owner of a Miami, Fla., clinic agreed to speak with MLB officials.

ESPN's Outside the Lines reported that two unnamed sources told it that Anthony Bosch, owner of Miami's Biogenesis clinic, had agreed to speak to baseball investigators. According to the ESPN report, Major League Baseball will seek to suspend 20 players whose names appeared in Biogenesis records.

The Miami New Times first reported the athletes' link to Biogenesis in an explosive January report.

Gamboa would face discipline if he played MLB instead of boxing (AP)Boxer Yuriorkis Gamboa, who defends the interim WBA lightweight title against Darlye Perez on Saturday at the Bell Centre in Montreal, was included in the original Miami New Times report. However, he won't face punishment even if he fully admits using PEDs.

Unlike baseball, there is no union in boxing and no collective bargaining agreement. The penalties for PED use in baseball came about as the result of negotiations between MLB and the Major League Baseball Players Association.

In boxing, the only time a fighter would face punishment for PED use would be if he tested positive after a bout or if a state commission randomly tested him prior to one.

Otherwise, Gamboa is clear. He could admit to using all sorts of performance enhancers, but as long as he provides a clean sample following Saturday's bout, he has nothing to fear in terms of suspension, now or ever.

There are many weaknesses in boxing's drug testing program. States don't have the funds to test correctly, and many fighters who are cheating are able to mask their use and get away with it.

There is very little random, unannounced testing in the sport and that's the best way to catch PED users.

Hopefully the situation will improve, but there is very little sentiment in the sport to affect meaningful change.

Interesting read. So if Gamboa was in MLB he would be facing a suspension right now...but since it's boxing he gets off Scott free.

So since those players are getting suspensions, we could only assume the owner of the clinic basically admitted he personally administered the PEDs to those players. I wonder if he admitted anything about directly administering Gamboa with PEDs?

I honestly could care less whether Gamboa is on that shit or he isn't, or any boxer in the sport for that matter.

The type of raw talent, skill & ability that he's displayed in the ring can't be manufactured solely with PED'S or else guys like Larry Olubamiwo & Mariusz Wach would be able to duplicate what he's done in the ring.

Also won an Olympic gold medal while adhering to Olympic style drug testing.

It's crazy how far behind the times giving is. The MLB is trying to force a 100 game suspension for first offenders for not only cheating, but lying about their involvement in this case. We're about 58 games into the season so they'd basically be done for the entire year. Guys who are repeated offenders might get 200 games or so.

Either way, if Gamboa is on that list, it'll be a slap in the face to this sport. They might just have the evidence, yet will do nothing if what Bosch says comes out to be 100% correct. And I was a big Gamboa fan but damn..What a shame

I understand where you're coming from. But if he has the raw talent, skill and ability why use PED's? With all these tools you named he should be the last one on PED's (allegedly)

The flip side is that Robinson Cano's Name and others who's names where also all over that list which turned out to be bull**** and he was cleared... the difference is we wont find out either way because this is not news the news is that the guy Bosch is finally cooperating and guys will get cleared and crucified but MLB wont be asking questions about Gamboa obviously and boxing dont give 2 ****s.

I still highly doubt Gamboa an Olympic Gold medalist with years of olympic style drug testing and being clean and being just as vicious then as he is now and looking just like he does now maybe at a lower weight just gets to the states and turns dirty just like that. but you never know.

They're trying to give 100 games for people who are in this investigation and also lied in previous investigations like A-rod and Braun.

Gamboa has been on that list since January, this isn't news, what is news is that the guy is cooperating with MLB.
