Comments Thread For: Claudio Marrero-Jesus Cuellar WBA Title Bout in Play

DEERFIELD BEACH, Fla. -- Unbeaten Dominican featherweight Claudio "The Matrix" Marrero (14-0, 11 KOs), ranked No. 2 by the World Boxing Association (WBA), could face Argentinean Jesus Andres Cuellar (22-1, 18 KOs) for the vacant WBA interim featherweight title sometime this coming July at a venue to be determined. Acquinity Sports promoter Henry Rivalta reports that negotiations with the Argentine team are close to being finalized.

"We are finalizing details of this fight now and discussions with Sebastian Contursi, Team Cuellar's representative, indicate that this fight can probably be made for this July," Rivalta said. "We have yet to determine the precise date and place for this fight, which we understand will feature, face-to-face, two of the top ranked WBA featherweight fighters. [Click Here To Read More]

WOW!!!! This is real good fight and a big test for Marrero! From what I have been able to see Cuellar is very strong so Marrero is going to have to box his ass off!!! This fight right here might be the beginning of his coming out party if he wins convincingly! I can't wait but as a Marrero fan I must admit I'm a bit nervous for him. Cuellar is the same guy who called out Fortuna...he means business!

Really, Cuellar is that tough? Looking at his record, the only time he stepped up he got stopped. Last year had a MD vs 27-32-7 guy. You just hyping up Marrero's sure win?

So a guy who has beaten nobody and is ranked 34rd by boxrec is fighting another guy who has beaten nobody and is ranked 62nd by boxrec for an interim WBA belt. Nice as an 8-rounder, but as a "title" fight? Am sure if either looks good they will be promptly avoided by "WBA super champion" Chris John.

Why not #2 vs #3? #3 is free to fight right now

I'm not trying to hype up Marrero at all. I really think he is good and has all the skills to get up there. The only thing he needs is exposure and thus far he has not gotten a lot of that. If this fight happens we shall see what he is capable of and if Cuellar is not much hopefully in his next fight he will be tested to higher degree. Again, it's my opinion that Marrero has the goods but maybe I'm wrong....we'll shall see.
