Leonard is one of my all time favourite fighters, but he is delusional here. I remember the Lalonde fight well and that includes the build-up. There was several segments about Lalonde and how he used alternative means of cutting weight including several hokus pokus measures. Lalonde's problems of going down was well known.

I'm sure Lalonde didn't care as Canelo doesn't care today. The pay for facing Leonard then and Floyd now is second to none in their respective generations.

It does irritate me when people talk about past guys like saints, or that new guys are breaking new ground with the stuff they do.

This shit has been going on for the whole history of the sport, the only different thing is how free information is now.

It would be interesting to see how Leonard would get talked about in the internet age, I reckon he would be viewed a fair bit different. I like SRL more than you but damn there is certainly room to be very critical of a bunch of stuff around his career, I still think he is great but I can also understand guys not liking him.

well he has admitted he thought hearns won that fight. but the whole lead up to the whole scoring controversy, leonard obviously tried to cherry pick tommy, it just went bad.

He pretty much admits that he didn't want to fight Duran in his peak condition. Then rather than rematch him straight away he waited for about 10 years, Pacquiao was routinely slated for waiting less than 5 years to rematch Marquez.

SRL: It kind of neutralizes things and balances things out. I would have asked for it too. You try to get every advantage. Sometimes, it's not just a mental thing, but also, a psychological thing.

Put it this way. Could I have beaten Lalonde if he had been given two or three more pounds? Sure. It would have been the same result. Lalonde has never said, "Well, that weight killed me."

In fact, he was open to the weight reduction, the catchweight. He was like, "Hey, I'll make the weight, and I'll knock Ray out."

It's just what you do. I don't think it's major factor, but psychologically, it's a big factor, if that makes sense. You always wanted the psychological edge.

Look at how you said Ghost was a more complete fighter than Canelo, then after the fight you said the exact opposite. Look at how you hated on Canelo, then after he beat Trout, you used his pic as an avy, so you could prove that you respect him.
