Comments Thread For: Martin Murray Eyes Carl Froch Title Shot Opportunity

Former interim middleweight champion Martin Murray (25-1-1, 11 KOs) is open to the idea of moving up to the super middleweight limit to challenger Carl Froch (31-2, 22 KOs) for the IBF/WBA titles. Last year Murray went to a controversial draw with Felix Sturm, and in April he dropped and lost a very close decision to WBC middleweight champion Sergio Martinez. Murray's decision loss to Martinez only raised his status in the UK, with many of the local writers believing the boxer had done enough to win the fight. Froch will return before the end of year. Last month he won a twelve round decision over Mikkel Keslsler in a rematch.

This is a great fight to squeeze in before a possible Ward bout.

I'd have Froch a favourite but I still think it would be an exciting fight.

Murray would turn it into a tear-up and go out on his shield. It might end up one-sided but I don't see it being a boring fight.

come on weebler , murray has faced one world class opponent and martinez looked old in that fight imo. we can't use that fight as a measuring stick as martinez and carl are 2 completely different styles , you really think murray could take carls power? while i respect murray greatly , this is a fight that would be 2 steps to far for him.

Two world class opponents, he faced Sturm in Germany if you recall. I'm not saying he would win, just that he would go down fighting and the crowd would get their money's worth.

The way I see it is Murray either gets KO'd by Golovkin or KO'd by Froch in the Autumn (or decides not to fight at all). At least if he loses to Carl his profile increases here in the UK.

Murray could well be the bigger man. He comes in around low 170's on fight night I imagine, as does Froch. He may well be a bit heavier than Froch at 168.

Think this is a pretty good fight. But I bet it doesn't happen.

Maybe Murray targeting Froch is a bit wishful; would love to see how Murray got on with Groves or DeGale as a starter.
