Comments Thread For: Canelo's Trainer: Mayweather's Age Won't Be a Factor

43 men have tried and failed, but now WBC/WBA junior middleweight champion Saul "Canelo" Alvarez (42-0-1, 30 KOs) will try to unseat Floyd Mayweather Jr. (44-0, 26KOs) from his pound-for-pound throne. The fight is set for September 14th at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. Chepo Reynoso, manager and trainer of Canelo, says Mayweather's age of 36 will not play a role in the fight. Canelo will be 23-year-old by the time of the match.

Canelo won't be a factor in general come fight night. He's just number 45

Of course he will. But what a simplistic statement.

We might as well dress you up in a cheerleader outfit with TMZ Pom Pom's.

Like I said, I like Canelo but it all comes down to whether or not has the legs to compete, I personally feel that Cotto's feet are quicker, Cotto's ability to cut off the ring is better as well. Canelo was more successful against Trout due to having a right hand, which Cotto lacks, and size as well. Just comparing some of their attributes.

So I ask, why shouldn't I think that Mayweather isn't simply gonna blast Canelo with right hands to the head and body, turn him and dart out all night? How will Canelo stop it, how will Canelo's conditioning hold up against the best body puncher he's ever been in against? Trout never touched his body, every time Trout would shoot the straight left to Canelo's body, Canelo would dash back or Trout was too out of range.

U can feel the doubt from his camp the maybe we wont win but if we dont we will blame it on somethin other then the fact floyd is the best.
Floyd will win an ull hear all the excuse from his team his fans his promoters and the floyd haters as usual so smart of his team not to sound off so it wont be such a shocker when he is handed his first loss.

They are hardly going to say otherwise. Coming out and saying 'if Canelo wins it's only because Mayweather is old' doesn't exactly help sell a fight or credit your fighter.

The age is something I always consider a concern when a fighter is beyond 35, but Mayweather stays in great shape which helps the age process.

Age is the main factor that makes Mayweather's fights of late interesting.

The same group feel he's the only one who can give Floyd a run for his money and may even beat him.
