Alvarez started his career at welterweight and fought his first 30 fights there. One of the reasons why he moved up was that the competition at welterweight was too stiff for him. At time he moved up in 2010, the welterweight division had Mayweather, Mosley, Pacquaio, Cotto, Margarito, and Paul Williams all of whom were still great quality fighters at the time, and others who were good like Judah and Joshua Clottey. Alvarez would have lost 6 of those 8 fights if he had fought them between 2008 and 2010. He also would have lost to Martinez, who was campaigning at 54 at the time.

He would have lost to almost everyone Floyd fought at Welterweight at the time Floyd fought them. That includes Judah, Baldomir, Mosley and probably Juan Manuel Marquez. He also would have lost to Oscar De La Hoya.

There is a reason why Alvarez had had 43 fights and only fought one quality opponent and that was in his last fight.

alvarez's resume is clearly better than floyds. don't fall for the hype. floyd should have lost to castillo and alfonso gomez destroyed castillo, then alvarez destroyed gomez. floyd ran all night vs baldomir and canelo knocked him out. floyd almost got knocked out by mosley and canelo easily beat mosley.

If you wanna go lower you have more as well. Hernandez, Castillo, Corrales to name the obvious ones.

dont get me misunderstood Floyd beats everyone on canelos resume easily Floyd has fought world class fighters for the last 15 yrs and canelo might have fought 2 world class fighters 1 way past his prime, I noticed canelo a few years ago and thought he was something special Im really just wondering why on this board he seems like a walk in the park 4 a 36yo fighter I think he actually can box with anybody and brings extreme power now he has a stamina problem but if he can get in shape I believe he has a very good chance

alot of people think he has a good chance which is why its a big fight but still, most think its only due to the huge size advantage. If they were the same size then I dont think you would feel his chances were as great
