Comments Thread For: Chavez vs. Vera Could Head To Staples on Sept. 7th

Former WBC middleweight champion Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. (46-1-1, 32 KOs) could now return on September 7th at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, according to promoter Fernando Beltran of Zanfer Promotions. Chavez would still face Brian Vera (23-6, 14 KOs) on HBO. Chavez was orginally being positioned to return on August 3rd in Mexico, but now the September date appears more likely.

It will be Chavez's first fight since last September's twelve round decision loss to Sergio Martinez. Following the defeat, Chavez tested positive for marijuana; he was suspended for nine months and fined $900,000.

stuuuupid, I will most likely be at the Verizon center that night watching Garcia-Matthysse. Does the month of August have any significant fights on the docket? Why is everything being crammed into September, this is starting to feel like the Oscar season of boxing.

flint - he didn't mean he wants vera to have brain damage. I think he meant that Vera will get beat up in this fight and has very little chance to win. He should be a 10-1 dog

This is now at least the third time that the date for Chavez's return has been moved back. I'm beginning to wonder if it's because Chavez is walking around at 225 pounds.

You know that loss messed him up big time, mentally. I wouldn't be surprised if his career is over tbh. Binge drinking, smoking blunts daily, beating his girl, I bet there is a lot of messy stuff going on with him behind the scenes right now just because sometimes that first loss takes all a person's confidence away for anything meaningful in the future.
