  • Comments Thread For: McGuigan: Frampton is on The Cusp of Big Things

Barry McGuigan insists Northern Ireland's European and Commonwealth super-bantamweight champion Carl Frampton is destined for stardom.

Frampton will appear on Frank Warren's 'Behind Enemy Lines' bill at Wembley Arena on July 20 after leaving Matchroom, ending a stream of defections who have moved in the opposite direction in recent times.

After the highly-rated 26-year-old has fought at Wembley, his next three outings will be staged in his home town of Belfast. It is hoped the third or fourth of those will be for a world title.

Yes, by his own admission he is not ready for Rigo. Who is gonna be ready for Rigo after 16 figts? I'm aware Rigo himself has had less than that, but he is one of the most decorated amateur boxers in history. No1 is going to throw a 16-0 prospect in with a master boxer like Guillermo.

No, the fight was never on the table.

Barry mcguigan was asked who he wants Frampton to fight as he's ranked high on all the sanctioning bodies lists. He said he'd like Romero or Terrazas, he then said that Carl's not experienced enough for Rigondeaux yet and he'd ideally like to fight him a year from now in a unification fight!

Can't understand why he's left Eddie Hearn to go to Frank Warren. Hearn has the sky contract & his fighters are getting a lot more exposure & fighting more often with the amount of cards he's putting on. Warren's got Boxnation but his stable of fighters have depleted drastically leaving him unable to put good fights on often. His fighters aren't fighting enough eg. Cleverly who should be fighting a lot more than he is since the Bellew fight Bellew has fought loads more than Cleverly & the lack of fights & exposure is not good enough for him at this stage. I thought Frampton may have been going with somebody like Golden Boy when I heard he'd left matchroom

I am guessing Barry McGuigan and Hearn had a falling-out and Barry is also smart enough to know that by moving away to a badly depleted (but far from finished) Warren stable his lad pretty much goes to straight the top of the pile in turns of promotional attention and support.....

.......Frampton has got the talent and is already a huge draw in Belfast. Let's Barry has got the brains!

Framton is in a division that doesn't pay that well. He needs home fights and lots of them. Sky don't have enough free dates to provide that.
