Comments Thread For: Mayfield Ready For Next Career Stage With Top Rank

As BoxingScene.com reported a few days ago, world-rated, undefeated and action contender Karim 'Hard Hitta' Mayfield of San Francisco has signed with Top Rank. Mayfield, 17-0-1, with 10 knockouts, is a tremendously skilled super lightweight with firepower. He is world rated WBO #2, WBA #4 and is trained by Virgil Hunter.

"Top Rank is extremely happy with the signing of Karim, said Top Rank matchmaker Brad Goodman. "He is a top fighter who will take on anyone, anytime and that in itself takes deserves credit. Our goal, along with Prize Fight Boxing, is to get Karim to the world championship and win it."

You think? The guy has been floundering in obscurity for years so he signs with TR so he can get some much-needed up front money.

He needed to take more fights. That way he could have gotten a number one ranking and became the mandatory challenger for a title.

thats the problem right there. the upfront money. it causes you to sign your dam career over to a dirty promotional company. topstank is ranked number one on doing that crap. he just screwed himself. the real money making fights for his weight class are at goldenboy. good luck to him though.

This guy is not afraid to fight solid fighters and has stepped up 2-3 times already but needs more exposure. He is very solid.

You got it, they take money up front so they can buy some bling and then wait until TR matches him against another, more established TR fighter. And who do you think will get the nod in a close fight.

I think fighters need a great manager and not a great promoter.

He'll need to impress when he gets the opportunity, sure he'll get a slot on HBO at some point.

It could be far worse....he could have signed with Don King and get a fight every 1-2 years. Lets hope they get him busy cause he makes for exciting fights. He is like the only guy to Stop Forbes and fought him, Patrick Lopez, Serrano, and Mauricio Herrera in his last 4 fights....that's some serious stepping up for a guy with so few fights.
