I was just coming to post something along these lines. Or they can find out the numbers for Froch-Kessler II in Europe and I bet you they're higher. Even their gate tripled Ward's so....

Only? these are two foreign fighters in an overseas fight with an early live showing - and one of them had never even fought on HBO before.

Most boxing fans know who Froch is and even though Kessler had been on HBO before, I'd bet more know who Froch is. HBO has been burned before ratings wise when they decided to televise Kessler/Calzaghe. Typically when HBO decides to show these big Euro events it doesn't do ratings and is probably a big reason they do very few of them and also kicked the Klits to the curb. As a boxing fan I'm happy that they decided to air it but lets be honest 6pm isn't that bad of a time and didn't really have to compete against anything but pulled in a ESPN FNF rating. HBO will probably be reluctant to show an event from overseas unless it involves a crossover star.

I dunno HBO have shown two now, from Buenos Aires and London. They don't seem that reluctant to me.

Sergio is a big star though. He's been on HBO a while now and been in tons of exciting fights on the network. Now if Froch started stringing together a bunch of wins that might change but at this point he's stuck. I don't think HBO will put him on unless he takes on an American like Ward, Dawson, or Hopkins. It will be interesting to see where Froch goes from here. He has a lot of options domestically and internationally. I hope he decides to test the waters and challenge one of the three I mentioned.

They'll never show a lot of overseas fights because it'll take away from the 'You must fight in the USA to be big' notion.

However I really think they should because the fanbase is incredible and it'd even up the playing field and maybe show the US audience that if they can fill that many seats we can have a push to do the same here

I mean Alvarez v Mayweather has a boxing capacity of 16,800 ... Over her Kessler v Froch 2 sold 18k tickets in 3 hours.

Calzaghe vs Kessler picked up 50 thousand at the arena... I just picked two fights i've been to for ease but you get my point.

It's doubtful that you paid the same amount for those events as how much Alvarez/Mayweather tickets will go for. It's kind of off topic but we all understand the sport in regards to why Vegas gets massive fights. Casinos can pony up that huge amount of money to host the event and then lure in the big wigs to come enjoy a weekend on the town. They couldn't careless how many butts actually sit and watch the event.

I get what you're saying though. Boxing is a global sport, that's what makes it great. The big events that actually have real boxing fans in the crowd, not some rich company dudes is only a positive.

I think Froch needs to try some humble pie.

Its not the issue , we have about a million to 3 mill boxing fans both casual and hard core world wide that will buy a fight if it catches them , I think it just shows people will buy main stream good fights , Ive always said its more about the match up that brings the numbers than any single fanbase , look at Floyds last fight only his fans would have bought it so the numbers were a bit below his average , now watch this next one break records , its not Floyd and its not Canelo its the matchup .

Great to see Froch Kessler do big numbers its real good for boxing .
