Comments Thread For: Kovalev Has Not So Secret Weapon in Trainer Jackson

BETHLEHEM, PA - When Russian knockout sensation Sergey "Krusher" Kovalev, 20-0-1, 18 KOs, squares off against Houston's Cornelius White, 21-1, 16 KOs, at the Sands Casino Resort in Bethlehem, the light heavyweight contender will have a not-so-secret weapon in his corner. Over the last year, Kovalev has been working with former world champion John David Jackson, who in recent years has become a standout as a boxing trainer.

The Kovalev-White bout is part of a knockout triple header on the next edition of NBC Sports Network's popular Fight Night, on Friday, June 14th. The broadcast begins at 8PM ET, and also includes a 10-round heavyweight fight between Philadelphia's Bryant Jennings, 16-0, 8 KOs, and Andrey Fedosov, 24-2, 19 KOs, of Russia, as well as a 10-round welterweight clash between Bethlehem's Ronald Cruz, 17-1, 12 KOs, and Ray Narh, 25-2, 21 KOs, of Ghana.

Been telling people Kovalev is the real deal. Hope to see more of him. He's still a prospect but if he keeps winning he'll be a contender real soon.

Was with Jackson and his crew of fighters down in South Florida for a few years, around the time he trained Nate Campbell to beat Juan Diaz.. He's an excellent, underrated trainer IMO... Glad to see him with Kovalev

Hopefully JDJ and Kovalev can add some excitement to a division that has pretty much ****** for a long time. Being an older buzzard (yo) I can remember the great fights and competitive warriors who knocked the sweat off each other during the early '80's.

Victor Galindez, Matthew Saad Muhammad, Michael Spinks, Marvin Johnson, Eddie Mustafa Muhammad, and many others provided some great wars for boxing fans. Except for Roy Jones Jr; Evander Holyfield, James Toney, and a couple of others, this once great division has been nothing more than a big snooze for 3 decades. Just my nickel's worth.

This is awesome for a free card on NBC. This series is really stepping up and delivering great fighters and fights on a limited budget.

Bryant Jennings and Kovalev are two of the more intriguing up and comers in the sport so it will be awesome to have the chance to see them both the same night.
