Mayweather is huge in the UK. Most top boxers are. Their only downside is that they fight so late at night. The UK has a good boxing fan base who know who is who. If someone like Mayweather fought on this side of the world the ratings and gate would be huge.

The reason non-UK boxers tend to be so well known in the UK could also be because the UK have a great many names for them to watch in multiple divisions, so they end up knowing who the main rivals are just because they have a boxer to watch in most divisions.

But the simple fact that the UK show such support for many local middle of the road boxers shows they have great affection for the sport in the first place. If a country really likes a sport they'll be paying attention win or lose.

mayweather is pretty much a household name here. everything he does gets coverage on sky sports news.

Mayweather isn't huge over here per say, a lot know his name but that's about it. The sport isn't big over here at all though, he managed to transcend it in the Hatton fight, being on Sky news with his UK jacket, Man United shirt etc.

The fashion in which he dispatched over Hatton too, casual fans don't get that sort of exposure of such a great boxer. They're stuck either watching Prizefighters or poor cards.

Ive lived here all my life and try to talk to non boxing fans about boxing. Most don't know Floyd Mayweather. Some say ''oh ye that guy ricky hatton fought''.
