I think the contradiction is obvious - we've all heard Floyd bemoan CWs in the past.
I don't for one second believe that Floyd views a fight vs. Canelo at 152 any differently than a fight verses Canelo at 154. "Then why ask for a catchweight?"
Honestly I feel like this is just Floyd using his leverage because he can. This is what he said about Canelo after he threw his little pitty party and refused to fight on the May 5th undercard because Floyd wouldn't agree to fight him:
"No fighter is going to give me an ultimatum. How can a fighter that ain't never been on pay-per-view without me give an ultimatum," Mayweather explained. "You know, tell him [Canelo] to do his own pay-per-view show if he's such a big name. Let's see if he's going to do his own pay-per-view show. I bet he don't. Man, his red-head, freckle-faced ass better just sit back and wait in line. If I feel like choosing him, I'll choose him”
I'm sure Team Mayweather told Team Canelo if they want the fight they need to choose between a CW (1.5 pounds south of where they just weighed in at) or a Rehydration Clause, which in my opinion is much more debilitating. I think Canelo made the right choice if this was the case.
In every Floyd promotion it is clear he wants to make his opponent understand that he calls the shots, is the cash cow...blah blah blah. This is just an example of that before the promotion even starts. Floyd has won round 1.
Bottom line this is a great fight. If people want to cry about the weight situation, talk about how Canelo will outweigh Floyd by 18-20 lbs EASILY on fight night.
